Located in one of the leading commercial districts of Barcelona, on a privileged area of Diagonal Avenue, is the Winterthur building, known with this name because for years it was the headquarters of this insurance company.
The space that once housed eight floors of offices has been transformed into a luxury housing building by the prestigious Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan with the collaboration of José Caireta, co-founder of Squircle Capital, a prestigious international investment firm, promoter of the project and also responsible for interior design together with the study itself.
The Swiss architect Marc-Joseph Saugey initially built the building in the 1960s, a contemporary of Le Corbusier and is one of the few Bauhaus-style buildings found in Barcelona. Its modern curved facade with windows is covered with elements popularly known as “eyebrows” and did not go unnoticed in an environment of stately buildings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Francesc Macià 10 has been designed and structured by Marcio Kogan and all his team of interior designers and architects to offer a luxury experience like that of the most important five-star hotels in the world, all in a private and residential environment.
The building has ten floors in total, with seven full houses of 600 square meters and a two-story overlay of 900 square meters with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, kitchen and spectacular views of the city.
Other amenities on offer include private storage facilities, secure parking for up to six cars and one motorcycle per residence, a 20-meter pool, a modern gym, two private treatment rooms with a beauty and massage parlour, a sauna and a fitness room.
The American walnut wood becomes especially important and becomes the common thread that adorns the walls in all the private and public rooms.
Martínez Otero Contract has had the privilege of participating in the project collaborating with the supply and installation of all the panels and furniture elements made of American walnut.
It is necessary to emphasise the bed and the sideboard designed by the studiomk27 of Marcio Kogan and made entirely by Martínez Otero Contract. Also the headboard of the bed of the master bedroom that extends into the wall to create a desk corner, incorporating a suspended desk.
American walnut is juxtaposed with other finishes such as Statuary, Carrara, Bamboo and Marquina Black marbles, Roman Basaltina stone – on the floor – and brass, as well as some of the particular furniture references.
